Back to the topDear Friends,
We are delighted to present this very special Music and Entertainment auction catalog to you. During the months in preparation for this event, as treasure after treasure came in to us, we watched the identity of this auction form and take shape. Every auction takes on a personality of its own, based on its own unique contents. It is always a delight to watch and share with you.
The overriding theme that has emerged in this catalog is "Hollywood Comes to Heritage." We have the honor of presenting several uniquely personal collections from icons and legends of the entertainment industry:
- Key pieces from the Estate of Buddy Ebsen, consigned by his wife, Dorothy Ebsen - from his Broadway song-and-dance era to his iconic TV successes as "Uncle Jed" of The Beverly Hillbillies and Barnaby Jones, and then further to original paintings and writings Mr. Ebsen did right up until his voice was stilled at age 95.
- Wonderful artifacts from the Estate of Stanley Kramer, consigned by his wife, Karen Kramer, including his Irving G. Thalberg Award from the Academy and a very special gift from his dear friend, Spencer Tracy,
- Archival treasures from George Barris, the King of the Kustomizers himself: sketches, models, even a movie-used replica of the James Dean "Little Bastard" race car.
- Gowns designed by Hollywood legend Nolan Miller, the nonpareil designer who brought true glamour back to movies and television in the 1980s.
- A once-in-a-lifetime archive from The Beverly Hills "CENSORED" Club Celebrity Roast Archive, formerly located at 9900 Little Santa Monica Boulevard: from Milton Berle to the Rat Pack... truly legendary entertainment history.
As usual, our musical treasures are quite amazing:
- Amazing collection of concert handbills and posters from the 60s; possibly our best offering yet.
- Over 40 signed guitars, by a vast array of musical legends.
- The Joe Walsh Collection, direct from Joe Walsh…..WE ARE HAPPY TO REPORT, A PORTION OF THE PROCEEDS ON THIS ARCHIVE WILL GO DIRECTLY TO JOE'S CHARITY-CALIFORNIA INNOCENCE PROJECT.
- Beatles and Elvis gold, from sealed records to autographs to other rare and unique memorabilia.
- Rare personally-owned Jimi Hendrix memorabilia.
- As usual, incredibly rare and desirable records and acetates.
Entertainment Highlights:
An Oscar, an Emmy, a Golden Globe, a Tony, an MTV Award...at least one example of virtually every major entertainment honor.
Rare autograph treasures dating from the birth of Hollywood to the most current stars.
"The James Dean Trifecta":
- The icon's favorite "lucky" pocket watch that was seen throughout East of Eden, as Dean proudly wore it…..many times to the chagrin of director Elia Kazan.
- The actual entry application for the race in Salinas that James Dean died while en route to: completely filled out and signed twice by the cinema legend, dated September 19, 1955, just 11 days before his tragic death!
- From the George Barris Collection: the Porsche "Little Bastard" replica built-for and used in the film, James Dean: Race with Destiny.
I could keep going, but the pages of this catalog will speak for themselves. Enjoy, contemplate, and I'll bet there will be more than several items you simply have to have!
My best and happy bidding,
